What does DAR do?
The NSDAR motto is: "God, Home and Country." Objectives: Historic Preservation, Promotion of Education, and Patriotic Endeavor. The work of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution promotes historic preservation, education, and patriotism. Our work on the chapter level reflects those aims. The Holland Patent Chapter DAR meets at least once a month. Each regular meeting includes devotions, patriotic exercises, President General's Message (from the current DAR magazine), and a three-minute National Defense Report. We also tour historic sites, participate in parades, attend National and State Conventions, attend encampments, and attend battle re-enactments. We frequently get together with neighboring DAR Chapters. Each year we promote the Good Citizen Award, raise money for worthy causes, and support the local library. What kind of time commitment is involved? We meet each month as shown on our calendar. Service to DAR can be very much individualized. Many members attend virtually every meeting, while others find that work and family commitments take precedence. Many of our members give countless hours of volunteer time to various causes. If you have the interest to serve on a particular committee, that support is welcome. If you prefer to become active at a later time, that is completely acceptable, too. Who can join? The Holland Patent. New York Chapter actively seeks both new members and opportunities to promote DAR objectives in our community. We especially welcome women with Revolutionary patriot ancestry to join us. Any woman is eligible for NSDAR membership who is at least eighteen years of age and can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence. She must provide documentation for each statement of birth, marriage, and death. No chapter may discriminate against an applicant on the basis of race or creed. You can view the detailed membership requirements. Please contact us if you are interested in joining. This is the Background Sound Control Now Playing: "Yankee Doodle"
